Itinerary

Day 1: HANOI - HA GIANG - QUAN BA (350KM) (LUNCH, DINNER)

At 7:30 in the morning, the driver and guide from Meditours Ha Giang will pick you up at the designated location, kicking off the 4-day, 3-night Ha Giang Tour.

The group will stop for lunch in Tuyen Quang.

Around 2:00 PM, the group will arrive in the city of Ha Giang. The driver will drop the group off to rest before the main journey along the mountain passes.

Around 3:30 PM, the group will reach the Quan Ba Heaven’s Gate and begin trekking from here to the village of Nam Dam – the home of the Dao ethnic people, learning about their customs, traditions, and daily life. The group will have the opportunity to visit traditional earthen-wall houses designed to protect people from the harsh weather of the high mountains and be welcomed by friendly and hospitable hosts.

The group will spend the night and have dinner at a homestay run by Dao ethnic people or upgrade to stay at Dao Lodge.

Groups of 10 people will have the opportunity to witness the ‘Cap Sac’ Dance performance – a traditional ritual of the Dao ethnic group that has been restored.

Day 2: QUAN BA - TREKKING MA PI LENG/VACH DA TRANG - MEO VAC (~100KM) (BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

Morning 7:30 AM: After breakfast, bid farewell to the friendly homestay hosts as the group continues its journey to conquer the rocky plateau.

The vehicle will take the group through winding and breathtaking mountainous roads, showcasing majestic limestone mountain ranges, ancient rock formations shaped over thousands of years by Earth’s geological dynamics. Along the way, you will encounter traditional stone-walled houses of ethnic minority groups in Ha Giang such as the Dao, Mong, Bo Y, Tay, nestled in the rocky valleys.

If the trip takes place in spring (February-March), the land will be vibrant with the pink of cherry blossoms and the white of plum blossoms. If you visit from September to November, you will marvel at the beauty of a local flower – the triangular circuit flower. Traveling from April to June, you’ll witness the lush green of vast cornfields.

The group will pause to visit the Palace of the Hmong King – Vuong Chinh Duc, the residence of the Hmong king in Dong Van, Ha Giang, located in the stunning Sa Phin Valley with ancient Chinese architecture. Learn about the architecture, history, and culture of the Vuong family and the Hmong people on the rocky plateau through the captivating storytelling of our guide.

Afternoon: The vehicle will transport the group for trekking along the walking trail on Ma Pi Leng Pass. The trekking path follows the mountain walls, hillsides, corn terraces, vegetable valleys, and the villages of the Mong people living on high mountains. Later, the group will ascend the steep rocky slopes under the White Rock Wall – from here, you will enjoy the panoramic view of the winding Ma Pi Leng Pass and the green Nho Que River, peacefully flowing below, surrounded by majestic limestone mountains. This is the unique highlight of your 4-day, 3-night Ha Giang Trekking Tour.

After 2.5-3 hours of trekking downhill, the vehicle will pick you up to continue on Ma Pi Leng Pass. Relax and admire the Nho Que River or the sunset on the pass before returning to Meo Vac.

The group will spend the night in the cultural village of the Mong people in Meo Vac, staying in a communal guesthouse or private rooms.

If you wish to explore the cultural life of the Mong people, such as staying in a local home and learning traditional H’mong dances, we can arrange this service for you.

Summary:

+ Travel by car: 110km, approximately 4 hours

+ Trekking difficulty: Moderate, about 7-8 km in 2.5-3 hours.

Day 3: MEO VAC - NHO QUE RIVER - HA GIANG (BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

If the third day of the trip falls on a Sunday, you will have the opportunity to experience visiting the market fair in Meo Vac, one of the distinctive cultural features of the rocky plateau of Ha Giang.

This place still maintains traditional elements passed down through generations of ethnic minorities. The market fair is not only a place for trading but also a gathering spot for friends, family, and couples to meet and engage in heartfelt conversations. Here, you will not only experience the lively atmosphere and vibrant colors of the ethnic groups in their traditional costumes but also sample local specialties. It is sure to be a unique experience during your Ha Giang journey.

Morning: Boat ride or Kayaking on the Nho Que River

The Nho Que River runs at the foot of the Tu San Gorge, one of the new attractive points on the Ha Giang Trekking route. Tu San Gorge is considered the deepest mountain gorge (over 2000m) in Southeast Asia and the most unique in Vietnam. The best way to enjoy the beauty of Tu San Gorge and immerse yourself in the turquoise water of the Nho Que River is by boat or kayaking – surrounded by mountains, rivers, and the cool mountain air.

You will trek along the mountain trail, stone steps from the main road down to the boat dock and hike back up, with a relatively steep slope, making it a great trekking route for those who enjoy physical activity.

P/s: If the group combines a visit to the market fair, the trekking schedule will switch to using motorcycles to reach the Nho Que River dock on time.

Afternoon: After leaving the Nho Que River dock and having lunch, the group will return to the city of Ha Giang. On the way back, you will have time to relax and admire the majestic mountainous scenery along the border!

The group will spend the night at a homestay in the traditional stilt house of the Tay people in the Thon Tha or Ha Thanh village, Ha Giang city.

Summary:

+ Travel by car: ~190km, about 4.5 hours

+ Trekking difficulty: Moderate, about 30 minutes downhill and 1 hour uphill with a steep slope.

Day 4: HA GIANG - HA NOI (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

Morning: You can participate in a gentle trek around Thon Tha and Ha Thanh villages, admiring the rice fields, traditional palm-thatched houses, passing through refreshing coconut forests, waterfalls, and chatting with friendly and hospitable local residents.

Alternatively, if you wish to experience farming, Meditours’ tour guides will arrange for you to try activities such as planting, harvesting rice, and husking corn.

After about 2 hours exploring the peaceful life of the Tay people’s village, the group bids farewell to the homestay and returns to Hanoi.

FAQs

Why should I buy individual health insurance?

This is the most important type of insurance that Meditours recommends all racers coming to Vietnam should purchase. It will provide protection in case of accidents or injuries. As you cannot obtain local permits with a tourist visa, even if you have a business visa, you still need a sponsor company and wait for 7-10 days. This means it is nearly impossible to obtain a local permit. Therefore, you cannot purchase personal health insurance from Vietnamese companies. Fortunately, you can purchase personal health insurance from companies like Allianz, CHI, World Nomads, etc. They only require your international or national driver’s license. In this case, you will be fully insured if anything happens.

Where do we stay overnight on our trip?

When joining our tour, you have the option of two types of accommodation: hotels or homestays. Your choice between a hotel or a homestay depends on your preferences. Hotel: Our adventures often take us to remote locations, so the hotels available are typically small in size. Nevertheless, they are equipped with standard amenities to meet your needs, including comfortable beds, hot water, and clean toilets. Additionally, when touring major cities, we provide accommodation in 3 or 4-star hotels. Homestay: Opting for a homestay allows you to fully immerse yourself in the authentic culture of the region. The families we select for homestay accommodations hold special permits from the local government, ensuring their certification. These families offer welcoming hospitality in their traditional stilt houses, where you can enjoy local cuisine and experience the warmth of the community. Amenities at homestays typically include private mats, blankets, mosquito nets, fans, and clean toilets. Furthermore, choosing a homestay provides an opportunity to witness stunning scenery and embrace the tranquil atmosphere of the area.

Can I do the loop in 1 or 2 days?

You can completely complete the Ha Giang loop route in just 1-2 days under the guidance and companionship of local people and tour guides. However, to have enough time to rest, take photos, hike and other activities besides motorbikes, you should spend at least 3 to 4 days. Meditours Ha Giang offers you Ha Giang Loop 2-day tour, 3-day tour, 4-day tour, 5-day tour, helping you explore the majestic beauty of Ha Giang and have interesting experiences.

We predominantly offer authentic Vietnamese dishes, which are renowned for being flavorful, diverse, and nutritious.
